CD front cover

CD packaging for a 'hip-hop' brass band called 'Hypnotic brass ensemble'. The packaging includes the front cover, back and inside sleeve. I collected as much research about the band as possible so that I could generate ideas and start developing designs. The band are from Chicago, which was where my idea of the buildings came from. Their music is very mixed with upbeat and calm melodies so I tried to reflect this by creating an image of a graphic equaliser. I completed the concept with a drawing of a trumpet to refer to the brass instruments. The orange and red tones are symbolic of the band's funky approach.

CD back cover

Here is my back cover to my CD packaging design. The design is largely symmetrical but the silhouette of the band adds some movement. I tried to add a taste of hip-hop to the feel of the piece.

Image manipulation project: Development

This is a development piece from a project using digital image manipulation. The objective was to create an image using collage and both traditional and digital media. The design had to be influenced by a dream. The colour is mainly in the background and I use a diagonal horizon to add some dynamism. The black elements come forward out of the composition.

Image manipulation project: Final Design

This is my final design for my image manipulation project. For this design I wanted to use a mix of digital and non-digital elements. I have printed an image of the American flag and I distressed and ripped it slightly at the bottom. I then scanned it in and positioned so that the truck looks like it's just ripped through the flag. The colours are dark and muted with just three yellow elements as highlights.

Typographic layout project: Final design

This is the final design in a very structured project that led us through the conventions of typography and layout. It is basically about managing information and giving the reader cues using fonts, weights, alignment and space. The final part of the project was to include some imagery and to manage the way text and image worked together,

composition layout project: Development

This is from a  project about classic typefaces such as 'Garamond'. I had to research into Claude Garamond himself and include some information about him in the design. The layouts here attempt to make use of space, alignment, scale and rotation. The limited use of colour was also a demand of the brief.

Workwear Project: Final Design

For this project, my objective was to create a T-shirt design for either Ikea or B&Q. In this design I had to include a quote of my own and the company logo. I wanted to achieve a simple design with little imagery by making my font the main view point. I used Illustrator to draw my hammer and i used Photoshop for my text. I used concrete texture and reduced the opacity to create that rough texture effect. I then copied and pasted sections of my text and placed them around my hammer to make it look like it is smashing into the text.
